Garden of the Heavenly Villa

According to legend (Chinese) when P’an Ku chiselled the universe out of chaos he did not put the sun and the moon at their proper stations.  The terrestrial Emperor sent an officer, terrestrial Time, with orders that they come forth and take their places in the heavens. P’an Ku was called and wrote the characters for the sun on the one hand and those for the moon on the other.  He stretched out his hands, repeating a prayer devoutly, and forthwith they ascended on high and so gave the world night and day.

In the ‘Garden of the Heavenly Villa of the Emperor’ there is a great rock standing on rising ground.  These are the fingers of the praying hands of P’an Ku which separate the realms of night and day.
